LA STEREO x MURS INTERVIEW
Posted by M Boogie on Jan 10, 2012

Interview I did with Murs on Paid Dues and what he, Will.i.am, Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar & Lil B "THE BASEDGOD" have in common. Check out the words from the wise man and his incredible contribution to the hip-hop culture.

So in awe of this video, guess I've been waiting for it as I was able to witness the early seeds of the collaboration between Matt & Syd for our doc "The World Is Yours". When I caught up with Syd again, four months later I told her her assertiveness imressed me, even though she denies being anything else than passive (and persistent). I guess I'm still in impressed by the assertiveness of a 19 year old kid.

Pyramid Vritra - Blu Diamonds from Stroll On Records on Vimeo.

Track by Hal Williams aka Pyramid Vrirtra of Super3/Jet Age from Odd Future. Video by Matt Martian? In any case I recognize the settings since I filmed there, and yes I also captured the little animals and the lights on the walls. Viva experimental, I will always support such endeavours.

Proof you can be one of the most talked about band and still be creative nearly every day of the week. This BBC version of Sandwitches is plain hilarious as Tyler & Hodgy change their lyrics and jack up their style, a far cry from the now infamous performance on The Late Night Jimmy Fallon Show. Check out the body moves at the end.

And here's their other BBC performance of Analog. Both those singles are on Tyler, The Creator's latest album Goblin which I suggest you cop because as far as hip-hop music.. it's here to stay.

In case you had any doubts Tyler, The Creator is one funny kid and one talented performer. Here Thurnis Haley speaks on Golf Wang I mean golfing... and it's pretty hilarious.

Go cop Goblin tomorrow and get the deluxe version while you're at it, to celebrate a hip hop album pulled off by a kid who did it all himself, true to his artistic vision with no compromise on prestigious British label XL Recordings. That in itself is an accomplisment. Kudos. And I won't do him the insult of tagging him in the LA scene, I got the message, props to the wolf gang.

LA Stereo meets Syd from Odd Future
Posted by M Boogie on Mar 31, 2011

Syd x LA Stereo

OFWGKTA @Low End Theory

So we were lucky enough to catch up with 3 of Odd Future members on Saturday: TheSuper3 (The Jet Age of Tomorrow), Mike G and Syd, and Matt Fisher took this picture of Syd in action explaining to us the impact of the Internet on the formation of their group. As you can see I've been busy since my first encounter with OFWGKTA here at Low end Theory doing an impromptu gig where I was filming (pic by Curious Josh for the LA Weekly)

As the engineer of the group, Syd is a very important link as she's remixed all of Odd Future's music production minus the Super 3's. She's also done the sound mix for Tyler's upcoming Goblin as well as for other LA based artists like Speak who's album is dropping soon. However I also know that Syd has been exercing herself at making beats and laying a few vocals with a new group called The Internet (?) consisting of Matt the Martian amongst other producers.

When we asked Matt, Mike G and Syd what had changed since their recent rise to fame, they answered that they were able to make music all day without feeling guilty. All I can say is that: Syd got beats! Watch out for her as she grows as an artist, also watch out for all the various projects coming from that multiform group, AND look out for some of the footage in our first documentary feature: "The World Is Yours" (coming up in May) on how hip-hop artists are using the Internet to change the music industry.

Second part of the Diddy intronisation... Odd Future "the future of the music industry" storming on stage, watch how Diddy hands the mic over, and the now infamous episode of Tyler getting hit by a bottle and demanding the culprit to hand himself over to the wolves (OFWGKTA). And please admire this front row point of view footage, I feel like I was able to capture the action quite clearly.

Odd Future Gets Signed (Video)
Posted by M Boogie on Mar 1, 2011

Honestly thought I was done with Odd Future for a minute as I've been slightly obsessed this past month since they broke into our collective consciousness (for all those who live on the Internet), but gotta commend them for their original marketing. Here's a video with Funny Or Die. Props to OF for always coming up where they re not expected and keeping us entertained  (I am a TABLE). Damn you guys are good!
While you're at it, come see Miss Syd from Odd future  tomorrow at The Low End Theory

The young misfit (aka goblin)  of a new hip-hop generation has struck again: Tyler The Creator aka @fuckTyler aka the de factor leader of oddFuture also known as OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All), making waves accross the media (Rolling Stones Mag, Pitchfork, Guardian, Le Monde, NYTimes) with barely a year existence but some very creative Internet presence.

Tyler's originality (and personnality) is plain to see and the ambience OFWGKTA projects  is at odds from the elder generation's (props to Tyler's anti-sneaker head stance). Think Sex Pistols, Punk of Hip-Hop, and a young group of angst-driven disruptors with a very savvy media approach. Only caution to the tale, like the Sex Pistols with McLaren they are danger of being commodified a little too early without having fully developped. They may have already signed to Def Jam . Oh and watch out for Tyler on the Jimmy Fallon show jamming with the Roots!

This video is a great. The 1st 5 seconds tell it all. Props to Tyler & the gang for keeping us on our toes.

Correction: Tyler The Creator did not sign with Def Jam, he is way too clever thank God but with XL the British label who launched Dizzee Rascal, The Prodigy, Adele.. Game changers in the making
