Street Edit (video) by Ryan Rigsby
Posted by M Boogie on Dec 29, 2011

A while back the first Odd Future video I posted was a skate video. I found this one on Tyler, The Creator's Twitter, edited and shot by Ryan Rigsby. To me it's some of the most inventive stuff out there. This reminds me of the interview I did with Brick Stowell yesterday, who takes mainly black and white pics of Odd Future with a point and shoot camera. http://brickstowell.com/ It's not so much about the equipment you use but about finding your own style and sometimes be brave enough to go against the grain. The skate videos definitely haven't quite embraced the whole DSLR trend mainly because you wouldn't be able to make that video with a DSLR camera, and it's a good thing.

Both The Jealous Guys and Phlo Finister have in common being from the Bay Area (The Jealous Guys are from SF and Phlo moved from Oakland to LA when she was young). Maybe it's for that they also both love London, the 2nd birthplace of the 60ies cultural revolution. Until I interviewed the Jealous Guys today I never thought of London and San Francisco having that cultural connection but it actually makes a lot of sense. Finally The Jealous Guys and Phlo are also label mates on 3QTR that also manages Odd Future and a very diverse rostrum of artists. We will be featuring Phlo & The Jealous Guys but until then, chekc out their dope music/visuals... both referencing Lundunum.

This is the typical case of an under the radar emcee, which translates well in the way he uses social media. Co$$ is Leimert Park's finest.

The first ep of the "Milk + Honey" series is finally out. Peep some of the music features by some of our favorite artists: DIz Gibran, J*ck Davey. Big props to the girls for producing such a high end quality series on their own based off their passion and commitment to their vision. The result is impressive. Even the website is gorgeous looking www.milkandhoneyseries.com. Just shows how much talent there is to offer that isn't directly represented in the media. Wishing them all the best.

Great video (directed by Jerome D) and great track by Jay Rock. Incidentally just watched: Blood & Crips Made in America on Hulu ( I recommend it HIGHLY exec produced by QD3). The moral of the story here supported by Jay Rock, is that you are really missing out and limiting yourself by not being able to reach out to people who are ...just like you. In the film, one interviewee's eyes lights up when he says how much he enjoys being able to go everywhere now. Imagine the mental prison some of these gangbangers put themselves into, having never left their turf they haven't even seen the ocean! Anyways, it's a great track. Props to Top Dawg Ent, we all watching.

The West Coast Enigma speaks to LA Stereo.TV on the spiritual reason The Roots sought him, his first label release and album credits that'll "be worth reading," (Samiyam, Flying Lotus, Exile, Cherry Pop, Sa-Ra Creative, U-God...) and why he chooses to be part of the electronic hip-hop genre.

Shoutout to Stephanie Rennie, Phil Davis, Inka One, Bianca G, Mainframe, J. Kevin Swain. Also a BIG shout out to Jasmin from takingyouover.com for her invaluable contribution.

Yes I love those making-of-pictures and we have tons. This one was taken by Perfecto at clothing store Regal Tenant. This is actually the second we post of Devi Dev whom we interviewed over a year ago about the L.A. scene (video)

Today was one of our last interviews for the special feature we have coming up in January #TheRevolutionWillBeTweeted on the changes in the music industry and how hip hop artists are using the internet, social media in particular, to further their cause, reach out to their fan base, distribute their music, etc. Featuring in it are: Wiz Khalifa, Blu, Talib Kweli, Lil B, Yelawolf, Pac Div, Tanya Morgan, Skyzoo, DJ Jab, Foreign Exchange, Devi Dev, A-Trak, Dibia$e, Black Milk and many others... You may have caught snippets here and there with some of the videos that we posted online.

Make sure to carry on checking out for us to find out more about it, and we look forward to your feedback and comments.

Spotted this pic of Jasmin on Oddisee 's L.A. flickr pics. This is to announce our next collab featuring DMV's Diamond District, shot at Regal Tenant (behind). And yes Jasmin always has a game of Connect 4 in her bag.

Check out Flying Lotus' stunning new video MmmHmm featuring the sounds of Thundercat.  This track is from his latest effort, Cosmogramma, which, to me, is beautiful and otherwordly from beginning to end.

"Those at the forefront of independent urban music are already familiar with the sounds of E.Super. As individuals, they've powered the sound of Los Angeles's indie-rap resurgence, producing standout tracks for Nocando, Busdriver, Casual, Oh No, Prince Po, Dumbfoundead, Open Mike Eagle, Sahtyre and many more. Now as a unit, they stand poised to bring a much-needed thump to a beat scene that's garnering attention the world over. E.Super members Maestroe, Kuest1, Alwayz Prolific, and Alpha MC are South LA-bred, Project Blowed pedigreed instrumental wizards, composing soundscapes that push the envelope while remaining grounded in trunk-rattling funk."

 - - - Direct from Alpha Pup Records

E-Super releases their full-length instrumental project this week! Here's a stand out track from the project, entitled "Embedded in Me"

We are proud to present Vann Clayton in our first webisode featuring a producer. He's behind many of the Spliff alumni's hits and we used his beat "Get Large" for our intro directed by Phil Davis. I've been a fan since. You can usually catch him at the bi-monthly BANANAS event organized by VerBS where he's produces mean beats live.
Vann talks us through some of his collaborations with H.O.P.E, Kail, VerBS and CP. He also tells us about his relationship with acclaimed producer Warryn Cambell and his school years with Nipsey Hussle.
A big shout out to Stephanie Rennie who did a great job editing the webisode.
