Don't miss this excellent documentary on VH1 next week directed and produced by my friend J. Kevin Swain. Soul Train originated in Chicago (Cornelius was close to civil rights activists like Jesse Jackson) but quickly moved to LA. It struck me how dance trends has always been a vital part of LA culture as revealed in this film. There are many more things to delve upon, and with an original soundtrack by Questlove from The Roots, there isn't one moment off beat in this film. Premiering on Friday Feb 5th at 9pm. Look out for the repeats.
It's that time again, as the spring rears its head for the new decade, we have the PAID DUES line-up. I'm hella excited to see ICE CUBE (could this be the return of the Westside Connection?). I'm also glad to see THA DOGG POUND reunion show. DAZ & KURUPT are some of the illest emcees on the westcoast. A BIG GROUP to watch is RANDOM AXE - BLACK MILK GUILTY SIMPSON & SEAN PRICE. Shout out to MURS, STRONG ARM STEADY, DILATED PEOPLES & DEL THE FUNKYHOMOSAPIEN for keeping the westcoast indie scene on top. It's nice to see DOM KENNEDY, DUMBFOUNDEAD, & HOPIESPITSHARD on the bill as well. They definitely deserve it.
Come support dope artists this Tuesday: El Prez, Diz Gibran, Tiron, Hollyweerd, Spree Wilson, Mikkey Halsted, LEP Bogus Boys, GRPPLyaz. We'll be there. Look out also for Leaders of The New Cool, they are rolling out a series of concerts in different cities.
Just got back from a studio session with El Prez, Chris Focus, Dnez & Paul Printz at the British Palace. Ayla came along too, so good pics to expect. It was fun, King Kong style, they were rehearsing for Sunday & that's where we'll be: at the Zanzibar, good times guaranteed.
